Old town lighting, Burgdorf (CH)
The lighting was designed to highlight the building’s decorative elements and architectural character. Accent lighting preserved the façade’s plasticity, while floodlighting reduced unwanted shadows and softened contrasts for a balanced overall view.
The main challenge was achieving the right contrast between highlighted details and the illumination of the entire tenement. Light spill and skyglow had to be minimized, requiring additional verification through lighting calculations.
By switching from conventional light bulbs to LED technology and using individually controllable light points, the town of Burgdorf has achieved energy savings of around 85%.

Batiul Futuh Mosque, in Morden, London
At Luminous Solutions we were tasked with creating a lighting design & specification for a refurbishment of one of Western Europe’s largest Mosque. A challenging project due to the timescales and financial demands, we were tasked to create a top specification lighting solution throughout. Internal Lighting systems throughout the Prayer Halls, Offices, Living Accommodation extending to a fully Controllable External Lighting Solution. A full Wireless Emergency Lighting system with online Monitoring. From Downlights, to Dali Led Linear Systems to Feature Led Strip to High Performance Architectural Luminaires, this project has it all.

Tennis Stadium Rothenbaum, Hamburg
After extensive renovations, the Tennis Stadium at Rothenbaum shines once again in new splendor. In addition to the Center Court, the Players Center, the Press Center, the “Walk of Champions,” and the Plaza were completely redesigned. The project was planned in SketchUp and Revit, and the 3D model proved especially valuable for simulating the Center Court lighting.
- Center Court: Modern competition lighting, controllable via app.
- Players Center: Perfect balance between diffuse and brilliant light.
- Walk of Champions: Showcasing the stars of past tournaments.
- Press Center & TV Studio: Optimal lighting conditions for international media.

Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
Light gives buildings a special effect - especially landmarks such as Neuschwanstein Castle. This world-famous fairytale castle was illuminated with a specially developed lighting design that brings the character of the building into the night. Using RELUX software, the team at Ingenieure Bamberger was able to emphasise the architectural subtleties of the castle while taking into account the strict requirements of a nature reserve. This project impressively demonstrates how modern technology and historical architecture can harmonise.
Thanks to the RELUX software, the experts were able to develop a precise and sustainable lighting design. 47 LED spotlights at 12 locations illuminate the facades of the castle, with the light colour of 4000 Kelvin and a high colour rendering index emphasising the historical character. Control via DALI enables flexible scenarios, such as the castle's ‘going to rest’ function, in which the lighting is dimmed in a harmonious sequence.

The Circle, Zürich
The Circle, the new district at Zurich Airport, was one of Switzerland’s largest construction projects. The building complex draws inspiration from the airport’s grand scale and creates the atmosphere of a compact city centre within its walls.
To define the design parameters for daylight in outdoor and indoor spaces, the incidence of daylight – in conjunction with glass properties and potential floor colours – was carefully analysed using daylight calculations in RELUX lighting simulation software. In the outdoor space, the focus was on the sense of space and the night-time effect of the glass roofs in conjunction with artificial lighting. In the interior spaces, the influence of the sloping façades and the materials on daylight was examined.

Nordhavn Tunnel, Denmark
AEC was chosen by the Danish municipality for the Nordhavn tunnel LED lighting project. The Nordhavn tunnel is the first stop on a new road to the north port of Copenhagen. Nordhavn is an old industrial and port area, planned to be developed in a new urban area in the north-eastern part of Copenhagen. The urban area is expected to have 40,000 residents and 40,000 new jobs.
AEC collaborated with the local Municipality for the supply of LED lights for tunnel lighting. In fact, the GALILEO 3 floodlights were installed at the entrance to the gallery where there is a beautiful sunshade structure designed by Møller Architects, while the GALILEO 1 were installed on the inside.

Ziegelstadl, Austria
Existing buildings are often fitted with new lighting as part of renovation works or due to changes in regulatory requirements.
At the Ziegelstadl event venue, the existing lighting was replaced with a new, compliant solution. To achieve this, the room and the existing luminaires first had to be digitally surveyed. Metaroom enables entire rooms to be efficiently digitised and used as a basis for further planning. The project was then visualised in Relux and rendered graphically using the real-time renderer. This allowed both the lighting design and the spatial effect to be realistically depicted.

Office space
SWICA Elefant-Building, Winterthur (CH)
Since spring 2024, SWICA’s new headquarters has been shining in the Elefant building of Winterthur’s Lokstadt district. The new construction combines modern architecture with the historic portico, offering around 11,000 m² of flexible work and meeting spaces.
The lighting concept seamlessly connects the new and old structures into a harmonious whole. Subtle luminaires, intelligent optics, and a high color rendering index ensure optimal visual comfort and a pleasant atmosphere. Light islands structure the large areas, improve orientation, and create selected highlights.
In the double-height halls, flexible lighting groups enable various scenarios – from focused project work to creative settings. The reception area feels open and welcoming, while the spacious boulevard, with its varied lighting, invites visitors to linger and connect.

Officespace
Office workplace, Germany
In this project, an office workspace was planned with a focus on indirect lighting. The aim was to achieve uniform, glare-free illumination while maintaining a comfortable visual environment for extended periods of work.
The lighting concept is based on indirect light distributed via ceilings and walls. This reduces harsh contrasts and ensures an even distribution of brightness within the space. In addition, the design meets the requirements for workplace lighting.
Particular attention was given to:
- reducing glare
- achieving uniform luminance distribution
- ensuring compliant lighting levels on work surfaces
- creating a balanced spatial impression through indirect light
The project demonstrates how indirect lighting can be used to combine functional requirements with visual quality in office environments.
