ReluxObtrusiveLight –
Luminous intensity

Evaluate the glare through luminous intensity determination

To evaluate the glare situation caused by obtrusive light for exterior lighting installations, standards like EN 12464-2, EN 12193, CIE 150 and NSVV Lichthinder 2023 are recommending to use the metric luminous intensity.

Depending on the choosen environmental zone and the pre-curfew and post-curfew situation, certain luminous intensity values of each lighting source towards the potentially obtrusive direction should not be exceeded.

In ReluxDesktop by selecting "Place luminous intensity point" under the menu tab "Insert" followed by the command "Measuring object" you execute the glare evaluation.

The luminous intensity points should be located at the observers’ positions.

Further parameter settings in the properties should be activated. In particular, the checkbox "Glare Rating" (Obtrusive Light) followed by the right environmental zone.

By starting the "Calculate" button under the menu tab "Obtrusive light", the results will be generated.

In the output results, "Glare rating obtrusive light" the printed results are shown.

Luminous intensity results with a green tick are in line with the choosen standard. Where a red tick appears, corrections should be further considered.
