PIR (passive infrared) sensors are an essential part of modern lighting control systems. They help to save energy, increase comfort and reduce costs. The correct product selection and placement of sensors has been a challenging task that requires in-depth knowledge and appropriate tools.

SensCalc is a web-based tool that makes this process much easier. This free service is aimed at installers, designers and homeowners alike. The aim of this development is to provide building owners with reliable information on energy savings and their payback periods in order to increase the use of sensors.

Advantages of Senscalc

  1. Maximum planning security
through the exclusive use of PIR sensors in accordance with IEC 63180 and sensNorm 2022.

  2. Well-founded basis for decision-making
thanks to integrated energy and amortisation calculation (SIA 387/4)

  3. Free of charge use
of all planning tools and the extensive sensor database

  4. Quality-tested data
    from leading PIR sensor manufacturers

Nach dem Login kann sofort mit der Planung online begonnen werden.

Functionality and advantages

The online tool is accessible via the homepage www.senscalc.ch After logging in (as a guest or with their own account), users can plan PIR sensors directly in the browser. The tool offers a variety of functions:

  • Energy savings calculation: SensCalc calculates the potential energy savings according to SIA 387/4 based on the parameters entered.

  • Amortization analysis: The tool calculates the amortization time of the planned installation and thus provides important economic key figures for decision-making support.

  • Visualization of sensor efficiency: The tool displays the sensor coverage graphically, making the optimal placement visible.

  • User-friendliness: Thanks to the intuitive user interface, even complex projects are easy to carry out. The tool is suitable for both experienced professionals and beginners.

«Just like the 3D image of luminous intensity distribution for luminaires, it is now finally possible to visualise the detection area of presence detectors in a similar way in the 3D representation of rooms!

SensCalc will make planners' work much easier in future!»

                  Relevance for the industry

The importance of PIR sensors in the context of energy efficiency should not be underestimated. According to the guidelines of the Swiss Lighting Society (SLG), the targeted use of PIR sensors can save up to 60% of energy in the lighting sector. These savings not only result in a reduction in operating costs, but also make a significant contribution to sustainability (goal of the energylight initiative - see info box) and to compliance with legal requirements.

By simplifying complex planning and presenting the results clearly, the tool reduces errors and saves time. Planners and electricians are given a solid basis for making decisions and optimizing the installation of energy-efficient systems.

                  Conclusion

SensCalc provides professionals with a unique, innovative and practical tool that revolutionizes the planning of PIR sensors. The ability to carry out complex calculations easily and free of charge makes the online tool an indispensable resource for planners, installers and energy consultants. Energy-efficient lighting control systems can be implemented even more efficiently and in a more targeted manner.

With an entry in SensCalc you can make your sensor products available
                  to a broad community.

The data should be provided in GLDF format. Alternatively, the data can be provided in the form of an Excel file. This includes an L3D model, product data sheets, assembly instructions and marketing materials. A template is to be found on the landing page. In order to present the products optimally, the sensors must be measured according to SensNORM or IEC63180.
