ReluxDesktop Update 2025
We have improved and expanded the free ReluxDesktop lighting design software with useful new functions. In addition to the IFC import function, there are numerous other features that make working more efficient and easier.

The latest updates at a glance
IFC import in ReluxDesktop
The IFC data format can be imported into ReluxDesktop. The import of IFC files enables the use of previously created buildings and elements from other CAD programmes, which considerably simplifies lighting planning for indoor and outdoor projects.
IFC data up to version 4.3 is interpreted. The IfcXML format, which comes with an XML structure, is also supported. With IfcSpace, rooms within a building model can be described digitally, including their geometry, position and function, in order to use them for calculations, analyses or planning of lighting concepts.
New room appearance
New default colours for the room surfaces, evaluation area hidden by default, background brightness adjustable. The rooms now look more realistic than with the previous default setting. This allows you to keep an overview right from the start and concentrate on the lighting planning.
Calculation status in project tree
Calculated scenes are marked with a green tick in the project tree, which improves clarity, especially for larger projects. This allows you to quickly recognise which scenes have already been calculated, making planning more efficient.

Room volumes
The floor output now also shows the volume of the rooms. The room volume influences the amount of light required as well as the light distribution and intensity.
Drag and drop of 3D models
3D model files can simply be dropped into ReluxDesktop like luminaire files, which significantly increases the working process. This feature offers an additional advantage, especially for lighting designers who work with larger monitors, as it enables faster and more intuitive planning.

Fassade areas at roads
The road module now has fassade measurement areas. For lighting planners, this offers the advantage that the lighting on facades and along road surfaces can be planned more precisely and specifically. As this calculation does not have to be carried out separately in an outdoor scene, the planner saves an enormous amount of time. The separate calculation of façade lighting enables better adaptation of light distribution and supports compliance with outdoor lighting regulations.
Labelling of luminaires
With the enhanced luminaire labelling feature allowing for individual text, elements can now be properly labeled during the planning phase, eliminating the need for post-additions. This feature is available not only in ReluxDesktop but also in ReluxCAD for AutoCAD. (We have included this tool since the last update)
ProjectCase Neuschwanstein Castle
Take a look at the project by Bamberger Ingenieure. The lighting design for Neuschwanstein Castle was created using RELUX software. The particular challenges were the nearby nature reserve and the associated light pollution.
Neuschwanstein Castle is also the new theme for the splash screen of the latest ReluxDesktop version 2025.
